Absentee Father
My dad was a businessman, but he did his part to bring home the bacon. But bacon was all that he brought home. My mom died when I was 5 yrs old and my younger bro was only 2 weeks old. He was then fostered out to my Aunt until he was about 13. You see, he had no time for us. After dinner at home each day he would be off to his club for some card game or billiards and who knows what! Oh, I forgot to mention - he did remarry after that, but only to leave his wife at home in the evenings as well. Fend for ourselves we did, did we have a choice ? I miss my Mom, but actually I also never knew her- what do you expect from a 5 yr old kid then? My Grandma brought us up, of course with all the bacon brought home it was a bit easier than without it. I never got to know my dad although he will always provide for us. We were quite comfortable I must say, but it's a lonely kind of comfort, you know what I mean ? He provided for me all the way to my university education overseas and also for my bro too. He was a good providing dad, I can't dispute that!
I am now in my 40s, a daddy myself, with 2 lads and 1 wifey. I'm trying not to do what my dad did to us, being absent! Yes I want to be present for my 2 boys and wifey of course, to connect with them, to engage them!
Thanks for the bacon dad , but I wish you had also provided the warmth, the love, the hugs and playing of games, the walks in the parks as well !
Happy Fathers Day DAD !

YOu're in your 40s... I can't tell from your writing.
I'm proud that you don't want to be an absentee Dad to your children!
